Chemistry: Kirk-Othmer

Getting started with Kirk-Othmer

The Kirk-Othmer encyclopedia of chemical technology is a useful starting point in chemical engineering research.  It covers preparation, manufacturing processes, uses of materials, properties of chemical substances and chemistry fundamentals.  Chapters on important industrial products usually contain a section on economics, pricing, and production.

The encyclopaedia is available on paper in the Edinburgh campus library quick reference section, and online.

Remember to search for alternative words that describe your topic, e.g.,

biodegradable OR environmentally degradable

denatonium benzoate OR bitrex

The Kirk-Othmer concise encyclopedia of chemical technology is also in Edinburgh campus quick ref and has briefer overviews of some topics.
