SciFinder-n: Finding journal articles ("references") in SciFinder-n

Searching for Journal Articles

Journal articles are in the references section of SciFinder-n.

Click on "References" in the column at the left of the screen and type your topic into the search box.

In SciFinder-n you can use natural language (instead of searching with Boolean logic ANDs and ORs), e.g. impact of traffic pollution on children's health.

Select references from the list of choices that starts with "all"

Use the filters at the left of the screen to refine your search results.  You can use the "sort" drop-down menu to change the order of your results, e.g. to put the most highly cited papers to the top.

The relevance drop down is above the search results

Finding full text of articles in SciFinder-n

The easiest way to check if an SciFinder-n article is available at Heriot-Watt is to install the LibKey Nomad extension to your web browser.  (Video: What is LibKey Nomad?)

LibKey Nomad will automatically add Heriot-Watt links to your SciFinder-n results page:

Alternatively, if you do not want to install LibKey Nomad, you can check for the full text of articles you have found in SciFinder-n by clicking on the “Full Text” drop-down menu and then clicking on "Heriot-Watt Univ. Library".

If you need an article that is not available in the library and you are in third year or higher, you might be able to request it via Interlibrary Loan.
