A guide to services and resources available from the EGIS Resource Centre


The EGIS Resource Centre is currently closed in line with the Government's COVID-19 restrictions. The University Library is open but all opening hours are subject to change at short notice.

Off campus access to EGIS software - please use Keyserver.

The EGIS Resource Centre provides an informal study area for group work and individual study and is located on the top floor of the Chadwick building, EC2.04 - EC2.06. Staff are available to provide assistance with using the PCs, photocopiers and e-resources.

Facilities Available

  • Informal study areas for private study and group work.
  • 50 School computers with dedicated software.
  • 2 MFDS for printing, scanning and photocopying. EGIS students have a £40 print quota.
  • Specialist printed materials for reference use only.
  • Specialist e-resources, please contact Resource Centre staff for username and password details.

Opening Hours (currently closed due to COVID restrictions)

Normal opening hours
  • Monday to Sunday 08.00 to 22.00 hours.
  • Staffed Monday to Friday 09.00 to 17.00 hours (semester only).
Out of Hours Access

Your Heriot-Watt ID card must be activated for swipe care access

  • Monday to Friday 18.00 to 22.00 hours, and Saturday to Sunday 08.00 to – 22.00 hours.
  • EGIS students must visit the Resource Centre in person to request swipe card access; please bring your HWU Student ID card with you.
  • All users must sign the out of hours register on each entry and exit.
  • All users must sign the out of hours register if already in the Resource Centre  / PC lab at 18.00 hours

SafeZone provides a direct connection to the HWU Security Services team should you require help or assistance.

  • Get help or first aid in an emergency.
  • Call Security for general non-emergency enquiries.
  • Receive emergency notifications and guidance during critical incidents.
  • When lone working out-of-business hours on campus, SafeZone must be used in order to “check-in” with Security staff to enhance your personal safety.
