Brilliant source of UK energy statistics, collated by the UK Energy Research Centre. Provides statistcs about energy usage, trends, historical data, the energy market, renewable technologies, etc.
The Museum of Design in Plastics
A reliable starting point for basic information on plastics. Includes a tool for identifying plastic samples, information on types of plastics (including trade and chemical names), and information about the manufacture of plastics.
Health and Safety Executive
Useful starting point for health and safety information.
Health & Safety Laboratory publications
Research into health and safety - some of these reports are relevant to chemical engineers.

British Standards Online (BSOL) This link opens in a new window
Updated daily, BSOL is the most complete collection of current, draft and withdrawn British Standards available anywhere.

BSOL includes all British standards and international and European standards that have been adopted as British standards (e.g. Eurocodes, OHSAS).

Note: this is searched by Discovery. However, if you know you are looking for standards it is quicker to search BSOL directly.

The FileOpen plugin is needed to download standards and to read them offline. You can install FileOpen on your own laptop, but downloading of standards via FileOpen is not currently available in the university PC labs.

When you download a standard to read later, you will still need an internet connection to authenticate the documents the first time you open them. After that, you will be able to access the documents offline. The file downloaded is licensed to a sole named user who is permitted to install a single electronic copy of it, for use on a single computer. You are permitted to print a single copy of a document. Printing one or many pages, or the entire document will count as a single print so it’s recommended that if you need a printed version, that you print the entire document.
