Heriot-Watt username and password
You will need your Heriot-Watt username and password to access all Heriot-Watt resources and services off-campus, e.g.:
- Office 365
- File Storage
- Library resources
Multi-factor authentication is a secure additional login process. It protects you and Heriot-Watt University from unauthorised access to your account, which may occur if you only use a username and password.

My username/password does not work
The username/password that you use to log-in to Library resources, is the same as you use for other Heriot-Watt services. Therefore, you can try logging in to one of them, to make sure that your username/password are working:
Outlook (Office 365)
Access your student/staff email.
This is the Heriot-Watt Virtual learning Environment (VLE). Here you will find your learning materials for taught courses.
Synchronise/change your HWU username/password
If your username/password works with the above services, but not with Library resources, then you need to synchronise/change your password.
If you have synchronised your username/password and can use them for other Heriot-Watt systems/services, but not library resources, then either you are trying to access something which we do not subscribe to, or there is a problem with the resource. Please contact Library Support as soon as possible to try to resolve any problems.
